Vile Body

Darlings,

Boy Howdy! Am I ever glad to see the end of this weekend! I had an absolutely horrid fin-de-semaine cooped up in my apartment with the flu. It’s been a rather longish spell since I’ve been hit by the powerful knockout punch of the ol’ influenza, and let me tell you, I didn’t welcome its return one bit. Oh! The cold chills! The leaky beak! The hot sweats! The swirling vertigo brought on by a noggin jam packed with various viscosities of mucous! Chest congestion! Sinus headache! And- last but not least- a touch of the gastrointestinal existentialism aka nausea! What a time it was… I drank many mugs of rosehip tea, took several hot baths and watched Wayne’s World, Pretty In Pink and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. My couch transformed into a nest of quilts and pillows and cat. It was a trying time that really got me somethin’ good, I tells ya.

I’m now on the mend, but the lingering remnants of the flu still coat the insides of my skull and lungs. I think it’s time for me to fill my hot water bottle, brush my teeth and try to sleep of the last of the sick. I can’t wait to breathe through both nostrils again.

September!

Not too much to report. Nothing spectacular has gone on so far this September, other than the birthdays of the beautiful and brilliant Boo and Brenda. Both were rather sedate and civilized affairs. I am ever so glad that as we age, we actually do become a little more mature. There are now far fewer all-nigh Bacchanalian par-tays that make Octoberfest look like kindergarten snacktime. This makes me happy because sometimes I do like to get to bed early and I really can’t handle the hangovers. (Ohhh… the hangovers!)

I’m trying to take it easy these days. I’m working on various kinds of home and self-improvement initiatives. So far, so good. It’s time for the semi-annual giant clean everything blitz! I’ve moved around a lot of the tchatchke in my home, thrown out heaps of old paper-based clutter and gone through my old clothes to find items to donate to the victims of Katrina. My dressers are so overstuffed that socks and sleeves are always trying to escape from jam-packed drawers. Yes, it’s true- I do actually have TOO MUCH STUFF!! I’m sure others could benefit from my garment-hoarding far more than I can. Heck, if New Orleans is going to be destroyed in a horrendous natural disaster, the least I can do is send down slacks that I’ve outgrown and sandals that never quite fit. Please wear the Bud Lite shirt I got for free at that Tex-Mex restaurant in good health- goodness knows I never did.
